Localising I'mPossible Toolkit Malawi
Under the AT2030 programme, the International Paralympic Committee's I’mPOSSIBLE toolkit was delivered in Malawi to foster inclusion and challenge perceptions of disability through the values of the Paralympic Movement. Since its expansion under the Para Sport Against Stigma (PSAS) project, the programme has been introduced in nearly 200 schools across Malawi, supporting inclusive education and physical education initiatives. I’mPOSSIBLE is a rights-based educational resource that provides curriculum-aligned content for classroom and physical education, using Paralympic sport to promote inclusion and challenge perceptions of disability.
The toolkit's adaptation, including translation into Chichewa, has made it more approachable and relevant for local educators and students. This initiative has not only enhanced awareness and acceptance of disability in educational settings but has also played a pivotal role in identifying and nurturing para-athletic talent. Notably, it contributed to the development of an athlete base that supported the launch of the first-ever Malawi Para Games on July 27, 2023, at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe .
Through the PSAS project's athlete development pillar, young talents like Moses Misoya—a visually impaired runner—were identified and nurtured. Misoya went on to represent Malawi at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, finishing 8th in the men's T13 400m final . His journey from local tracks to the global stage exemplifies the transformative power of inclusive education and sport.
The success of the I’mPOSSIBLE programme in Malawi demonstrates how localized educational initiatives can foster inclusivity, challenge stigma, and empower individuals with disabilities to achieve their full potential.
