Climate Week NYC: Inclusive Cimate Infrastructure [online event]
Climate change is deepening existing inequalities in urban environments, particularly for people with disabilities.
Over the past four years, the Global Disability Innovation Hub, through the #AT2030programme, has led participatory research across six cities: Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), Varanasi (India), Surakarta (Indonesia), Freetown (SierraLeone), Nairobi #Kenya), and Medellin (Colombia). This research revealed how urban infrastructure, and services enable or obstruct accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities; and how climate risks pose serious threats to independent living and personal mobility.
As GDI Hub builds a robust evidence base at the intersection of inclusive infrastructure and climate action, this session will showcase the value of open dialogue and cross-sectoral collaboration for solving some of the wicked problems in urban development.
The session will use a ‘Challenge format’, an interactive, idea exchange that moves from problem-framing to brainstorming...
➡️ The challenge setter is a person with a disability whose day-to-day life is directly affected by the impacts of climate change in urban settings. They present a real-world problem grounded in lived experience.
➡️ Sector professionals (with and without disabilities) with expertise in climate planning, architecture and the built environment, and service provision will explore potential transformation pathways and solutions.
🟢 24th Sept, 2-3.30pm BST. Online.
