Disseminating the Country-Level Strategy on Strengthening Organisations of Persons with Disabilities through Assistive Technology in Kenya.
Kilimanjaro Blind Trust Africa (KBTA), through the AT2030 Programme led by the Global Disability Innovation Hub (GDI Hub), organised a national dissemination event to present the Country-Level Strategy on Strengthening Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) through Assistive Technology in Kenya. KBTA developed the strategy following a comprehensive needs assessment conducted in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Mombasa Counties and consultations with OPDs, government institutions, development partners, researchers, and Assistive Technology stakeholders. The strategy addresses key challenges affecting OPDs, including limited institutional capacity, inadequate access to Assistive Technology, digital exclusion, resource constraints, and weak coordination mechanisms. It also recognises the critical role that OPDs play in advancing disability rights, promoting accountability, and facilitating the participation of persons with disabilities in social, economic, and governance processes. Through the integration of Assistive Technology and digital solutions, the strategy provides a framework for strengthening OPDs and enhancing their contribution to inclusive development in Kenya. KBTA organised the dissemination event to increase awareness of the strategy, promote stakeholder ownership, and secure commitments towards its implementation at both national and county levels.
